Top 5 Video SEO Tips For Higher Visibility

It is a great business plan to make some business videos and market them online. Websites which have videos consistently rank higher in Google than websites which have text-only content. Also people are more inclined to view a video online rather than read chunks of text. Further, they are also more likely to share video content with others than text. All in all, creating a video is a winning business strategy.

Following are some tips to get more viewers by developing and marketing your video online:

1. Include keywords in your video:

Use keywords in the video wherever you can in the video title, description, tags and the file name. You can even add a transcript of the video with the keywords. Google cannot see the video but it can see the keywords that you used and it will accordingly rank you highly.

2. Keep it short:
Just as in case of text content, it is a good idea to keep your video short.  Your video should not be more than 5 minutes long. Also, make the organization of your video clear to the viewer by dividing it into sections.  The easier it is for your viewers to follow your video, the more likely they are to understand it, like it and share it.

3. Incorporate your video into your text:

Rather than having your video as a stand-alone entity on your website, you can even incorporate it into your textual content. That way when people want to link your video, they will link your entire page rather than only the video.

4. Share your video:
Do not just rely on others to share your video. You must share it as well. Put your video on YouTube, Vimeo and other social media sites. Hopefully you will get a few back links in return.

5. Focus on quality:

Just as a well-produced video with great content can be of great help in boosting your business, a bad quality video will create a bad impression on your visitors. Hence don’t rush the process of creating a video. Think carefully about what you want to put on your video and make sure it has high production values.

Using these strategies, you are bound to create a great video which will get you more customers.

Co-Citations as Replacement to Anchor Text

What is anchor text?
Anchor text is the visual clickable text in a hyperlink. Linked text is usually linked to the landing page with hyper link words are relevant to the landing page. Google uses the words in the anchor text to determine the ranking of the page in search.

Some problems that have been noticed with anchor text are as follows:

1. The anchor text may not have any connection with the content on the landing page.
2. People may receive too many back links with the same anchor text. This makes Google suspicious that the website may have a say in what keywords to use in the anchor text of the link.
3. People stuff too many keywords in content and they also repeat keywords in anchor text of links.

Due to these problems many link building experts say that anchor text is going to die out and will be replaced by co-citation.

What is co-citation?

The concept behind co-citation can be explained with the help of bibliographic co-citation. Consider two papers ‘A’ and ‘B’ which appear in the bibliography of another paper ‘C’. From this we may infer that A and B are related to each other.

Similarly, if two sites ‘A’ and ‘B’ are cited by site ‘C’, Google infers that there is similarity between the two sites. If a number of sources cite ‘A’ and ‘B’ together, then from that Google infers that the relationship between ‘A’ and ‘B’ is quite strong. Google uses this information to determine how influential a site is on the internet.

Will co-citations be a better way to rank pages as compared to anchor-text? Only time will tell.

How To Use Social Media Effectively In 2013

Despite the existence of social media for over a decade, some businesses still wonder if being on social media will help them in anyway. The answer to that question is that it depends on the nature of your business, your business goals and your customers.  Having said this, if used effectively, social media can potentially be of great help in your business.

Here are top 5 things you should do on social media, should you decide to use it:

1. More is not always better
There is an argument for being on as many social media sites as you can. For the more contact points you have in the online world, the more ways you have of reaching out to your target customers. But beyond this very basic use, it doesn’t help much to be omnipresent in the virtual world. Choose your social media carefully. The site you choose will depend on your business, your targeted customer demographic,  content for social media, how you intend to present your content, among other factors.

2. Don’t just be there, do something
Don’t just sign up on social media sites and do nothing. Use them. Write posts on facebook, twitter etc. Interact with people beyond likes”, “follows” etc. Make real relationships with people on social media sites.

3.  Don’t go trigger-happy on social media
Some people use social media excessively. While that is harmless for individuals, for businesses who use it for professional reasons, it can be potentially disastrous. If you post too much, then your readers will suffer from information overload. Also there is a real risk that the quality of your content will suffer.

4.  Follow social media etiquette

Not following social media etiquette can portray a less than professional image. Social media etiquette rules are unspoken and it is your responsibility to find out what they are. So take time to find out social media etiquette for business.

5. New trends on social media: mobile marketing
If you have been on social media for a long time  and have used social media effectively, it is time for you to go mobile. With large number of people accessing internet through their mobile phones, mobile marketing will be the next big trend in marketing in 2013.

Whether social media makes a real impact on your business depends partly on how you use it. Used correctly, it has great potential to expand your business.

Surviving The Algorithm Change

Google changes its search algorithm frequently. The question then is: How do you survive Google’s capricious algorithm changes? One way to survive and even flourish through the algorithm changes is to do great content marketing. Let us look at some content marketing strategies for 2013.

The first step for great content marketing is to create good quality content.

Top 4 things you can do to create good content:

1. Find out what your customers want:
You have a good chance of people viewing your content if you write on something which will be useful to them. Find out what people need to know to be successful and write about it. What are the gaps in their knowledge? How can you fill those gaps?

2. Great editing:
Proof read your content for any kind of grammatical and stylistic errors as well as errors of word choice. Carefully written text carries more credibility and authority than a slapdash piece of work.

3. Present your content in different ways:
I touched on this point in a previous article. It is a good idea to experiment with different ways of presenting your content to make it more exciting, interesting and easily comprehensible.  Make use of videos, graphics and diagrams wherever they will be helpful to your readers.

4.
Be consistent:

The quality of your content should be consistent. Set a particular benchmark and never go below it. Consistency also means that you add fresh content regularly. There should be a steady stream of content as opposed to short burst campaigns.

After creating content, you need to market it well.
Top 4 strategies to market your content:

1. Judicious use of keywords:

Neither should you overuse keywords nor should you ignore keywords completely. You should work key words in your text in a way that they do not disrupt the fluency of your text.

2. Share your content on social media:

Share your content on social media sites like facebook, twitter and google+.   Distribute it through email newsletters and share it on your blog. The diverse the channels on which you share your content, the more chances you have of attracting viewers who are genuinely interested in your content.

3. Mobile Marketing:

Mobile marketing will be big in 2013. Share your content with your customers on mobile as well. But keep your mobile messages simple, short and effective.

4. Don’t be overtly promotional:

Most of online marketing is very pushy. The result is that it drives people away. Don’t be overtly promotional. The idea is to write great content which provides value to your customers with short promotional messages and then let them come to you.

Using these strategies, you are bound to create great content which reaches your target customers and gets you a more loyal and stable customer base.
