Anchor text is the visual clickable text in a hyperlink. Linked text is usually linked to the landing page with hyper link words are relevant to the landing page. Google uses the words in the anchor text to determine the ranking of the page in search.

Similarly, if two sites ‘A’ and ‘B’ are cited by site ‘C’, Google infers that there is similarity between the two sites. If a number of sources cite ‘A’ and ‘B’ together, then from that Google infers that the relationship between ‘A’ and ‘B’ is quite strong. Google uses this information to determine how influential a site is on the internet.
